COVID-19 Update from the Mayor (05/04/2020)

The City plans to keep citizens informed of new developments surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak. Citizens are being encouraged to follow the City website and Facebook page for regular updates.

To: The Residents of the City of Cameron

We have begun to open things up a little today in accordance with State and County directives.  The specific details of this are in Order 20-03 which I published on Friday.  There has also been an increase of positive COVID-19 cases in St. Joseph which caused the state number of cases to increase by 92.  This spike indicates that the virus is still going on and we are not immune to it.

Even though we have opened things up, we still need to follow the directives of Order 20-03 which lists the details for our phase 1 of recovery.  We will continue to monitor how these new changes effect any increase in cases here.  We will look to the end of this week or early next week to see what happens and will hopefully be able to gradually open up more.

Many people are still working at home and doing home projects.  Consequently, I want to reiterate the limitations for the total number of people allowed in businesses during this first phase.  These formulas are:

For a business with a retail location less than 10,000 square feet:

  • Building Square Feet divided by 30 = Quotient
  • Quotient x .25 = Occupancy Limit

For a business with the retail location of 10,000 square feet or more:

  • Building Square Feet divided by 30 = Quotient
  • Quotient x .10 = Occupancy Limit

We thank everyone for complying with the new order.  As always, please contact us at City Hall if you have any questions or concerns (816) 632-2177.

Darlene Breckenridge, Mayor
