Cameron Dragons Soccer Club Performed Well in Season Opener

     The Cameron Dragons Soccer Club season opener was held on Saturday, September 8, at Lawson, continuing on Sunday, September 9, at Lathrop. The Club is composed of 93 youngsters between the ages of 5 and 14, divided into 7 separate teams. The CDSC competes in the Tri-County League. This is the 4th year for the Cameron Club to play in the Tri-County League. The goal of the Club is to build soccer skills in youngsters and develop players for the high school level and beyond.


     Team designation U8-Murphy, is coached by Ryan Murphy and Darren Turner. They tied with Lawson in the season opener, 2-2. Cameron goals were scored by Atticus Anderson and Xander Ensign. Team U8-Welch, coached by Jason Welch and Thomas Williams, defeated Kearney 2-0. Both goals were scored by Ryker Haggard.


     Team U10-Prado, coached by Al Prado and Doug Martin, defeated Kearney Eastep, 4-1. The Cameron goals were scored by Brayden Henry, Kayden Martin, and the other two were scored by Lexi Robinson: one was a set piece from the top of the 18-yard box, and another with an assist by Carrigan Stueddle. U10-Ramey, coached by David Ramey, defeated Plattsburg 5-0. The Cameron goals were scored by Shayla Hullinger, Ashton Fortner, Brennan Williams, Emme Dodd, and Ian Chaffins with an assist from Olivia Carr-Knott.


     At the U12 level, both Cameron teams faced one another. Team U12-Hill, coached by Brian Hill, defeated U12-Huetti, coached by Tracy Welch and Meghan Huetti. U12-Hill’s goals were scored by Brock Kirkendoll, Devin Keys, Austin Hill, and Izzy Dodd. Goals for U12-Huetti were scored by Sage Burnett and Skye Mallen.


     On Sunday, U15, coached by Jason Welch, lost both ends of a double-header to Lawson (0-5), and Lathrop (1-4). Cameron’s goal was by Amelia Welch with an assist from Caiden Nowell.


     The Club plays again next weekend: September 15 at Lawson and September 16 at Lathrop.
