Almost 2 Million Texans Will Benefit From an Extension of Snap Benefits Through May!

This month, there’s some good news for individuals who need a little more support. SNAP benefits have been extended for the month of May, and roughly 1.6 million Texans are likely to benefit.

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission will provide over $317.9 million in emergency SNAP food benefits for the month of May, according to the governor’s office.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, can be used to purchase food at any location that takes it. The benefits are stored on a Lone Star Card, which can be used in the same way as a debit or credit card.

The size of your family determines your SNAP benefits. According to the press release, all SNAP households will receive a minimum of $95 in emergency allotments in May.

What Doesn’t SNAP Cover?

Tobacco, alcohol, and non-edible products are not covered under SNAP. According to the Texas Health and Human Services website, you cannot utilize SNAP to pay for any outstanding food bills.
