Beneficiaries of Social Security, Snap, Medicaid, and Wic May Be Eligible for a $30 Discount on Internet Access!

Because of the Affordable Connectivity Program, which was initiated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), it is possible for you to get a discount of $30 off of your monthly internet service bill if your household income meets the requirements for the program (ACP).

After the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBBP) assisted nearly 9 million households in paying for internet access during the pandemic, the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) was initially introduced on December 31, 2021. Beginning March 1, 2022, the ACP provided a discount on internet access.

What Is the Main Distinction Between the APBC and the EBBP?

Those who were eligible for the EBBP were given a maximum monthly benefit of $50 to put toward internet service, but those who lived on tribal grounds were given a maximum monthly benefit of $75.

The discount of $75 for individuals who live on tribal grounds will continue, but all other participants who meet the requirements will now get a credit of $30.

The ACP requires applicants to demonstrate that their family income is at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty requirements, whereas the EBBP requires applicants to demonstrate that their household income is at or below 135 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.

The benefit is reduced, but it is made available to a greater number of households. In February 2022, moreover, ten million homes signed up for ACP.

Follow These Steps If You Were Already Receiving EBBP Benefits

Those individuals who were receiving EBBP benefits up until the 31st of December of the previous year should not be required to take any action in order to continue receiving the benefit, provided that their household is eligible according to the new rules.

According to findings, a program administrator would have contacted them directly in the event that extra procedures were required.

Who Qualifies to Receive Assistance from the ACP?

If you have recently become eligible for the benefits, you should register for them as soon as possible.

Updates:

The aid provided by the program does not count as income for the purposes of determining eligibility for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefit payments and is thus open to all households who are currently receiving SSI.

According to the information provided on FCC.gov, households that participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, federal public housing assistance, the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program, the WIC program, veterans pension or survivor benefits, or the Lifeline program may also be eligible.

If your family income is less than 200 percent of the federal poverty requirements, you can still be eligible for this assistance if you don’t take part in any of these programs.
