The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps, was established in 1996. The addition of an emergency bonus was made during the epidemic to assist struggling households. More information can be found here.

The plan, which was unveiled in April 2021, provides an additional $1 billion per month for SNAP to the USDA, which runs the program.

Additional funding was originally scheduled to expire in September 2021, but it has been renewed on a number of occasions since then.

The amount of additional money you are eligible for is determined by the number of people in your family. The bare minimum is $95, and the maximum is $1,000.

The SNAP program in your state will help you apply for benefits and determine your eligibility if you are interested in doing either. Every state has its own set of regulations and applications.

Individuals with a gross income up to 130 percent of the federal poverty line typically qualify for these benefits.
