Georgia Ebt Card Faq: What Is It and How Do I Apply for Benefits?

The Georgia Division of Family and Children Services administers and operates the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as the food stamp program.

The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (DFCS) transfers monthly SNAP benefits to qualified low-income households using the Georgia EBT card to assist them in paying for the cost of food.

Georgia EBT cards can be used to purchase food items from any store that has an EBT/Quest sign on the front door.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funds can only be used to purchase qualified items, such as foods and beverages intended for human use.

Ineligible purchases include alcoholic beverages, tobacco, hot foods, and foods that are ready for immediate consumption. These items must be purchased using a separate method of payment.

In some cases, if you’re above the age of 60, living on a permanent fixed income, and the other members of your household are not working, you may be eligible for Senior SNAP benefits.

In order to make it easier for seniors to receive food stamp benefits, the Senior SNAP program has simplified the application procedure for those over the age of sixty-five.

If you live in Georgia, you can apply for SNAP benefits online using the Georgia Gateway online portal by selecting “Apply for Benefits” from the menu bar.

Hours for applying are limited, and you can only apply online from 5 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
