Cameron Schools by the numbers

The nation holds its breath as schools reopen. Some schools are shut down by Covid 19, while others try every combination in the book to try to give students an education.

Enrollment is down about two percent in Cameron.  Last year it was 1,746 and this year it is 1,706.

Systemwide, about 20% of the students are staying home to learn online. That number is one-in-four of the high school kids are learning “virtually.”

That means 1,254 are attending classes (plus 106 in pre-kindergarten) and 344 are schooling at home.

Here is the breakout by class:

Grade In Person Virtual

K 126 17

1 106 28

2 79 20

3 89 22

4 95 22

5 82 29

6 101 11

7 89 27

8 96 37

9 118 31

10 94 36

11 88 33

12 91 31

The students, staff and teachers wear masks nearly all day and the precautions are paying off: Just three students have tested positive so far (two in middle school and one in elementary). Some kids are quarantined because their parents tested positive.
