Pelosi Says That the Supreme Court’s Decision on the Abortion Draught “Slapped Women in the Face”

The draught Supreme Court ruling, which shows a majority of justices favouring overturning Roe v. Wade, “slapped women in the face,” according to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

On CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Pelosi said, “Here we are on Mother’s Day, a week where this court has slapped women in the face in terms of disregard for their judgement about the size and timing of their kids.”

“Let us, therefore, keep our eyes on the ball.” “The ball is in the court of those justices, as one of them has often stated,” she added.

The Speaker described the abortion rights issue as “serious, personal, and demeaning of women.”

Pelosi’s remarks came less than a week after Politico revealed a draught Supreme Court opinion in which a majority of justices voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. The Supreme Court stated the leaked document was “genuine,” but stressed that it was not the court’s final ruling.

In anticipation of the Supreme Court overturning the almost 50-year-old rule, Democrats on Capitol Hill are hurrying to adopt legislation codifying Roe v. Wade. In September, the House passed legislation, but Senate Republicans rejected it in February.

Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) has stated that the bill will be voted on next week. However, the effort is likely to fail.

Some Democrats, notably California Governor Gavin Newsom, are becoming irritated by the lack of federal movement on abortion rights (D).

“Where has the Democratic Party vanished to?” Where is the celebration? Why aren’t we speaking up about this? This is a well-coordinated and concerted operation. They are, in fact, winning. We must take action. “Where is the retaliation?” According to Newsom.

When Brennan asked Pelosi why pro-abortion rights Democrats were outmanoeuvred, she slammed a fellow California Democrat without naming him.

“The truth is that we were fighting for a woman’s right to choose, and that right is to choose.” We’ve been fighting the Republicans in Congress nonstop because they’re anti-right women to choose not just in terms of terminating a pregnancy, but also in terms of contraception, family planning, and other issues, both domestically and internationally,” Pelosi said.

“This is a perennial battle that we’ve had for generations — decades, in my case, in Congress — and we had been bipartisan early on in our support for a woman’s right to choose until politics shifted, and that’s what happened in the court.” The science hasn’t changed, but the court has, and as a result, they’ve decided to do things differently,” she noted.

“I have no idea why someone would make that statement unless they were uninformed of the fight that has been going on,” the Speaker said, referring to Newsom.

Barbara Newsom, the governor’s aunt, was married to Pelosi’s brother-in-law Ron Pelosi for a few years before divorcing him.
