Pence’s Former Chief of Staff: Trump’s Claims of Overturning Election ‘merited Response’. Complete Info!

Pence's Former Chief

Former Vice President Mike Pence this week issued a more direct rejection of former President Donald Trump’s election claims, claiming that Trump’s assertion that Pence could have overturned the results “merited response,” according to Pence’s former chief of staff, who spoke on the record.

President-elect Mike Pence has made it “clear from day one” that he does not have the authority to overturn the election results on Jan. 6, 2021, according to Marc Short of NBC’s “Meet the Press.” In spite of the fact that Pence has stated this repeatedly over the past year, it wasn’t until Friday when he specifically stated that Trump was “wrong” to suggest differently.

“He continued to make those remarks throughout the week… primarily because the president’s comments about the vice president having the authority to overturn the election I believe deserved a reaction,” Short said.

“Of course, there is nothing in the 12th Amendment or the Electoral Count Act that would grant such authority to a vice president in that situation. It is for this reason that no vice president has ever exercised that authority in the past 200 years.”

As President Biden was elected in 2020, Short claimed that there were valid worries about the way elections were conducted in states such as Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Georgia.

All of these states were won by President Biden in the 2016 election. In contrast, a former Trump administration official acknowledged that the deadline for filing legal objections had passed by January 6, 2021, and that Biden had been “duly elected.”

The vice president on Friday delivered his most direct rebuke to date of Trump’s election rhetoric, following the former president’s suggestion that Pence could have overturned the 2020 election results, and later remarked that a special House panel investigating the Jan. 6 riots should look into why Pence did not reject the votes that certified Biden as the victor.

“In our party, there are some members who believe that, as the presiding officer over the joint session of Congress, I had the ability to reject Electoral College votes on my own initiative. I’ve also been informed this week that President Trump has stated that I have the authority to ‘overturn the election.’ “Pence made the remarks while speaking at a Federalist Society gathering in Florida.

“President Trump is completely incorrect. I didn’t have the authority to overturn the election “Pence went on to say more. “The presidency belongs to the American people, and only the American people,” says President Barack Obama.

When a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in an attempt to halt the formal count of the Electoral College votes, Pence was targeted by Trump on a regular basis. Mike Pence should be hanged, yelled some of the protestors.

The New York Times’ David Short wrote on Sunday about how Trump “had many terrible advisers who were really snake oil salesmen, giving him incredibly bizarre and new notions as to what the vice president should do.”

“I believe that he did receive a lot of incorrect advice, but it was not something that the vice president encouraged the president to do, saying, ‘I don’t believe I have that authority’ from the beginning. Although he was always prepared to look at whatever you wanted to bring our way, he didn’t believe he had that authority “”Short” stated the situation.

Short stated that Pence was glad to be a part of the Trump administration, noting accomplishments in foreign policy, border security, and tax cuts as examples.
According to Short, “I believe he’s been quite clear in saying that he believes the president was incorrect, that he believes the president was given faulty advice on that particular day.” The fact that they worked together for four years does not detract from their accomplishments, says the author.
