Russia and Ukraine’s Aggressive Actions Leave Blood Bank and University in Ruins
Deadly air raids have caused significant damage to crucial facilities in Ukraine as the conflict between Russian and Ukrainian forces intensified.
A blood transfusion center, a university, and an aeronautics facility were the targets of the escalated attacks. The situation worsened following a strike by Kyiv on a Russian tanker in the Black Sea.
As the attacks unfolded, senior officials from 40 countries, including China, India, and the United States, gathered in Saudi Arabia for a two-day summit to discuss strategies for ending the war in Ukraine. Despite the meeting, no final declaration is expected.
Ukrainian officials accused Russia of targeting the blood center in the town of Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region, resulting in deaths and injuries. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the attack as a “war crime” and said, “There are dead and wounded.”
He did not provide the exact count of casualties and injuries.”
Russian forces used a “guided aerial bomb” in the attack, he said, adding that rescue workers were extinguishing a fire at the scene.
“This war crime says everything about Russian aggression,” he added.
The recent attacks were part of a day marked by Moscow’s forces striking a Ukrainian aeronautics facility and Kyiv’s forces causing damage to a Russian tanker in the Black Sea.
The aeronautics facility, owned by Motor Sich, a company producing aircraft, helicopter engines, and other components, is situated near Khmelnytskyi in western Ukraine, approximately 300 kilometers (190 miles) southwest of Kyiv.
The attack temporarily disrupted traffic on the Kerch Bridge, a connection between the Crimean Peninsula and Russia, including ferry transport.
This incident marked the second raid within 24 hours.

Diplomatic Efforts for Peace Settlement

In Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, a two-day summit aimed at finding a peaceful resolution to the ongoing war commenced, with one notable absence—Russia’s participation. Despite Russia’s absence, the Kremlin asserted its vigilance over the discussions.
The summit is part of Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts to garner support from countries beyond its core Western backers. Ukraine has reached out to Global South nations that have been hesitant to take sides in the conflict, which has significantly impacted the global economy.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, who envisions a global leaders summit on the issue later in the year, expressed the importance of holding bilateral talks on the sidelines of the Jeddah meeting.
Despite acknowledging differences among attending countries, Zelensky emphasized the necessity of restoring the rules-based international order.
“It is very important because, in such matters as food security, the fate of millions of people in Africa, Asia, and other parts of the world directly depends on how fast the world will implement the Peace Formula,” he said.
“I am grateful to Saudi Arabia for this platform for negotiations,” he added.
