Stimulus Check 2022: Did You Miss the Deadline to File a Claim for Child Tax Credit Money?

It was far too late by November 17 to file a claim for any unclaimed Stimulus Checks or child tax credit (CTCP); but, this does not mean you will never receive the monies. Even if the IRS Free Pay arrangement has been ended for the remainder of the year, you can still claim any funds owed to you when you file your taxes in 2023.

Almost 9 million people who have not yet gotten their Stimulus Checks did not file a tax return this year because they were not required to do so or because they needed more time. The IRS established eligibility for each of these rewards based on tax returns.

Users of Free File Tool and Stimulus Check Due Dates

Individuals who used the IRS Free File tool had until Thursday, November 17, at 11:59 p.m. ET to file a claim for an unclaimed Stimulus Check or CTC monies. The tool is meant for persons whose lower incomes frequently exempt them from having to file and submit taxes.

The deadline for filing a tax return, whether you filed an extension earlier this year or not, was October 17. That was also the deadline for submitting Form 1040 in order to avoid a late filing penalty.

If you were affected by one of the earlier natural disasters, such as the Ian storm, you have until February 15, 2023, to file a claim. However, if you live in a state where the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has declared a catastrophe, such as Missouri or Kentucky, the deadline to submit was Tuesday, November 15.

Don’t be alarmed if you missed any of the aforementioned dates for collecting unclaimed stimulus monies or CTCP.

Even if one does not receive the money this year, he or she can still claim it while filing taxes in 2023. Tax Day in 2025 will be the final date for filing a claim; nevertheless, it is encouraged to do so as soon as possible.
