The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides monthly assistance to more than 41.5 million Americans.

Once known as food stamps, the program now offers a restaurant meals program that accepts electronic benefits transfer (EBT) cards from participating restaurants.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) offers financial assistance to low-income individuals and families.

State-specific regulations determine when and how often you’ll get your monthly payments.

An EBT card, like a debit card, is used to buy food at designated retail food outlets.

To be eligible for SNAP benefits, you must submit an application in the state where you currently reside. Each state’s application procedure and forms vary.

The SNAP restaurant meals program has been expanded by the federal government to include states (RMP).

If you can’t cook for yourself or don’t have a place to store and prepare food, you can use your SNAP benefits to buy prepared meals at restaurants under the state’s Restaurant Meals Program (RMP).

If you’re on SNAP, you may be able to utilize your benefits at restaurants.

To participate in the RMP, SNAP recipients must be enrolled in a state with an RMP.

There must be at least one of the following:

Age 60 and Above

Receives disability or blindness benefits, or receives disability retirement benefits from a government agency, as the result of a permanent disability.


An RMP-eligible spouse of a SNAP recipient

What states participate in the SNAP restaurant meal program?

The USDA has officially acknowledged at least six states as RMP participants.

SNAP is administered by the USDA, which is a federal agency.

Restaurant meals are provided by the governments of the following states:

  • Arizona
  • California
  • Maryland
  • Michigan
  • Rhode Island
  • Virginia

In DeWitt County and a few chosen Cook County zip areas, Illinois is testing a restaurant meals trial programme.

To accept EBT cards, the restaurant must file an authorization request.

Also, the zip codes 60617, 60619, 60620, and 60628 must be situated in DeWitt County and Cook County.

Zipcodes in Cook County reflect the city of Chicago.

Currently, the USDA is reviewing New York’s application for a statewide RMP.

At the end of October 2021, Governor Cuomo signed into law a bill allowing SNAP users who qualify to purchase prepared or hot meals at discounted costs from participating eateries and delis.

SNAP restaurant meals are available at a variety of establishments around the country.

The SNAP RMP in each state will need to approve each restaurant’s application.

  • Jamba Juice
  • KFC
  • McDonald’s
  • Papa Murphy’s
  • Popeye’s
  • Pizza Hut

Take note: EBT cards aren’t accepted at all fast-food restaurants.

According to geography and state, participation will differ.

Individual restaurants will have to get permission from the RMP if they want to participate in the RMP program.
