The State of Virginia Has Extended Emergency Snap Benefits Through May

Virginia has once again extended emergency SNAP benefits for another month, which means that families in the commonwealth might receive hundreds of dollars in food and other necessities this month.

The notification came a little more than a week before benefits were scheduled to be put onto users’ EBT cards on Monday, May 16, according to the Associated Press.

As shown in the figure below, those that qualify will get the maximum amount allocated for their household size.

A public health emergency declaration was issued in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which served as the basis for the emergency benefits. Every month, the benefits must be re-approved by the Social Security Administration.

You can apply for SNAP benefits either online or by phoning the social services department in your local area.
