Thousands of Americans Have Barely Weeks to Qualify for $500 One-time Relief Checks — Eligibility and How to Apply

More Than 25,000 Americans can apply for a $500 payout before Christmas, but they must do so before the deadline.

The Chicago Resiliency Fund 2.0 is aimed at those living in poverty and residents who were unable to qualify for stimulus checks and other forms of assistance in 2020.

The city has made a $500 direct payment accessible by utilizing the $14.68 million received by the American Rescue Plan Act.

Heartland Human Care Services, a nonprofit organization contracted by the City of Chicago Department of Family and Support Services, administers the program (DFSS)

Eligibility and Application Procedures

To be eligible, you must live in Chicago and be at least 18 years old.

There are additional income requirements based on 2019 tax returns, which must have included a dependent who is at least 17 years old.

Earnings must be at least 300 percent of the federal poverty line, which is calculated based on household size.

  • $40,770 for a one-person household
  • $54,930 for a two-person household
  • $69,090 for a three-person household
  • $83,250 for a family of four
  • $97,410 for a family of five
  • $111,570 for a family of six
  • $125,730 for a family of seven
  • $139,890 for a family of eight

Officials suggested adding $4,720 for each person over the age of eight.

Those who meet the qualifications may apply online until Friday, December 9 at 5 p.m.

When will you be notified of your choice?

Officials stated that you can expect a response “as soon as [one week]” after submitting your application.

Payments will be made no later than December 20, 2023.

The Sun reached out to a program official for comment in order to obtain a more specific timeframe.

Other Ways to Obtain Money

If you do not qualify for this program because you do not live in Chicago, you may be eligible for other cash assistance programs around the country.

The City of Boise’s Property Tax Rebate Program, valued up to $1,000, is expected to begin next week.

You must meet the requirements for the state’s Circuit Breaker Program to be eligible.

These are some examples:

  • Idaho native
  • A home worth less than $800,000
  • After deducting medical expenses, the total income is no more than $32,230.

You must also meet one of the following requirements: 65 or older, a former prisoner of war (POW) or hostage, blind, a widow or widower, or disabled

Those who were approved for the Circuit Breaker Program in April will receive a letter with an application in the mail in December.

A universal basic income program will also necessitate action in San Francisco, California.

Transgender residents, among others, can apply for $1,200 in monthly compensation over a year and a half.

You must earn less than $600 per month to qualify.

The application deadline is Thursday, December 15.

Since this summer, Delaware has begun sending out one-time $300 rebates to residents.

This relates to Delaware residents who filed their personal income taxes on time in 2020 and 2021.

However, there is a possibility to apply online if done by Wednesday, November 30.

In the fall and summer, the state distributed 780,000 cheques.

Eligible residents must be at least 18 years old and have lived in the state as of December 31, 2021.
