Weatherization Rebates in Texas:How to Apply and Benefit

Texan resident with high home energy costs? Low-income, elderly, disabled, or with kids? Check Texas Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) for energy-efficient home improvements.

This Texas Weatherization Assistance Program is intended to help low-income elderly and disabled adults, along with families, weatherize their residences.

The program is administered via contracts with 21 non-profit organizations and local governments with experience in weatherization service delivery. The WAP services are accessible in each of the state’s 254 counties.

Who Qualifies for the Rebate on Weatherization Program?

To be eligible for the Weatherization Rebate, low-income eligibility requirements based on federal poverty guidelines must be met. In addition, certain classes receive preferential treatment:

  • People over the age of 60
  • Families in which at least one member is disabled
  • Families with children aged five or younger
  • You are automatically qualified for weatherization aid if you receive benefits from TANF,  Supplemental Security Income (SSI), SNAP, or certain payments for Means Tested Veteran Programs.

To determine income qualification, the program establishes yearly household earnings limits before taxes. Below are the maximum household income levels dependent on size:

  • 1 individual: $21,870
  • $29,580 for 2 individuals
  • $37,290 for three
  • $45,000 for four
  • 5 individuals: $52,710
  • $60,420 for six
  • $68,130 for seven
  • $75,840 for eight

For families with more than eight members, an additional $7,710 per individual is added. It is essential to confirm the most accurate guidelines by contacting the relevant management agency.
