If a new idea comes to fruition, it is possible that Americans may get financial assistance in the following weeks and months.
Although the Child Tax Credit has not been distributed to Americans since December 2021, there are still a number of other useful programmes available.
Mitt Romney, a Republican senator from Utah, has introduced the Family Security Act, which would be comparable to the Child Tax Credit.
Families with children under the age of five would get $350 per month, and families with children between the ages of six and seventeen would receive $250 per month.
The Child Tax Credit provided families with $300 per month for children under the age of six, and $250 per month for children between the ages of six and seventeen.
Although the law has not yet been publicly submitted, it is currently being negotiated by members of both houses of Congress.
Romney’s Family Security Act would almost certainly include a work requirement, requiring beneficiaries to work, volunteer, or train for a total of 80 hours per month under his plan. This is not a prerequisite for the Child Tax Credit, which is available.
Parents would be able to begin claiming benefits under the Family Security Act four months before the due date of a child’s birth. The maximum amount of money that might be paid in monthly instalments is $1,250.
Among its many benefits, Romney argues that it will reduce child poverty by up to one-third, assist families from pregnancy through childhood, provide fair treatment for both working and stay-at-home parents, and encourage marriage.
The proposal, according to Romney’s website, would “renew our commitment to families in order to assist them in meeting the obstacles they encounter as they do the most important task any of us will ever undertake-raising our society’s children.”
