Where to Get SNAP EBT Discounts in Texas in December 2022

In Texas, SNAP benefits are given out once a month on Texas Lone Star Cards, the state’s EBT card. These benefits are managed by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Food stamps, including those for December, are sent to SNAP accounts on the same day and time every month.

SNAP can be used to buy most foods, as well as seeds and plants to grow food. According to the Texas HHS, SNAP can’t be used to:

  • Purchase tobacco
  • Purchase alcoholic beverages
  • Purchase items that you cannot eat or drink.
  • Pay any outstanding food bills.

The Texas Lone Star Card can be used at major grocery stores and department stores, as well as any store with a Lone Star Card sign. If you don’t see it, ask a store worker about it. At YourTexasBenefits.com, you can log into your online account to check your Lone Star Card balance and see what’s been going on with your card recently.

You can also use your Texas Lone Star Card online, but not at all stores that let you shop online. Here is a list of the online stores that have been approved.

SNAP helps low-income families who meet the program’s rules. Texas HHS says that most adults between the ages of 18 and 49 who don’t have children can get SNAP for up to three months every three years. The person’s benefits may be extended, though, if they work at least 20 hours a week or are in a job or training program.

You can apply for the Texas Simplified Application Project if everyone in your household is 60 years old or older, or if everyone in your household has a disability. This makes it easier to sign up for SNAP and gives benefits for three years instead of just six months.
