Janesville, WI — A 22-year-old man has been charged with multiple felonies, including child sexual assault, child abduction, and possession of child pornography, after a disturbing case that spanned several months.

Daniel Munoz of Janesville was arrested on October 7th following a reported child abduction that led to the discovery of months of alleged sexual abuse.

Child Abduction and Investigation

According to the Janesville Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Woodman Drive after receiving a report of a child abduction. The caller reported that a child had left their residence in the company of an adult male.

Authorities quickly located both the suspect and the victim in nearby Walworth County. As the investigation progressed, detectives uncovered evidence that Munoz had been involved in sexual contact with the victim for several months, across two different locations: Janesville and Milton.

“We believe the abuse occurred over an extended period and in multiple locations,” police said in their statement.

Charges in Two Counties

Munoz faces a slew of charges across two jurisdictions:

  • In Janesville, Munoz is charged with 2nd-degree sexual assault of a child, abduction of another’s child, and possession of child pornography.
  • In Milton, he faces charges of repeated sexual assault of the same child, child enticement, battery/domestic violence, disorderly conduct, and strangulation.

According to police, Munoz allegedly engaged in repeated acts of sexual assault and other forms of abusive behavior toward the victim during the months-long ordeal.

Community Shock and Legal Proceedings

The case has sent shockwaves through the Janesville and Milton communities, raising concerns about the safety of minors and the need for more vigilance.

Munoz is currently being held in Rock County Jail as authorities continue to investigate the full extent of his actions.

“This case underscores the importance of reporting suspicious activity and protecting vulnerable children,” said Janesville Police Chief.
