Houston, TX — Investigators confirmed that two suspects involved in a police chase in east Harris County on Friday evening were wanted in connection with the murder of 62-year-old Lyft driver Lawanna J. Lewis from Louisiana.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies received a call about a woman found in a ditch on Friday. Upon arrival, they discovered Lewis with a gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Missing Rideshare Vehicle
Lewis had been working as a rideshare driver on the day of her murder. Her vehicle was later reported missing, prompting authorities to issue an alert. Later that evening, the car was located in the Houston area, leading Louisiana officials to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO).
Deputies found the car parked at a Walmart near Wallisville Road, with two men inside identified as 23-year-old Ethan Bush and 26-year-old Tristan Bush.
“The suspects fled on foot when approached by deputies,” HCSO said, adding that the younger suspect jumped onto the beltway and was struck and killed, later pronounced dead at the scene.
Arrest and Investigation
The second suspect, 26-year-old Tristan Bush, was later arrested hiding in a backyard. Further investigation confirmed that both individuals were linked to the murder in Louisiana.
Tristan Bush is currently awaiting extradition back to Louisiana and faces second-degree murder charges, with additional charges pending, according to officials.
“Evidence collected at the scene and during the pursuit solidly links both suspects to the murder of Lawanna J. Lewis,” authorities said.
According to ABC13, the investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement continues to gather details about the circumstances leading up to the crime and chase.
Community Response and Law Enforcement Efforts
The deadly chase and arrest have drawn attention to interstate cooperation between Texas and Louisiana law enforcement in tracking violent suspects. Officials praised deputies for their rapid response, which resulted in the apprehension of one suspect and the collection of key evidence linking both individuals to the murder.
“Collaboration across state lines was critical in ensuring the suspects were located and that justice can be pursued in Louisiana,” HCSO said.
Residents in the area expressed shock at the violent events, emphasizing the dangers posed when stolen vehicles and violent suspects are on the move.
Authorities remind the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to local law enforcement immediately, especially regarding stolen vehicles or violent crimes.
