West Farms Community Reeling After Arrest in Connection to Double Homicide

Police have arrested a 20-year-old man, Jailyn Wagner, in connection with two tragic murders that occurred just days apart at the same intersection in the West Farms neighborhood this past July. Wagner now faces multiple charges, including murder, for the deaths of 28-year-old Cherif El Farissy and 39-year-old Roman Martinez.

The two incidents took place at the intersection of E. 176th Street and Mohegan Avenue. According to police reports, the first murder occurred on July 23. Cherif El Farissy was shot and killed during an attempted robbery as he was heading home after work. The attack happened just before 3 a.m., leaving El Farissy fatally injured on the street.

Six days later, on July 29, Roman Martinez was found dead inside his RV parked near the same intersection. Authorities revealed that Martinez suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head, with the attack taking place just before 8 p.m.

Eyewitness and Community Reactions

A neighbor, who chose to remain anonymous for safety reasons, recounted the chilling events he witnessed during one of the murders. “I was in my room watching TV late at night when I heard the shots. The guy had a bike, and then he ran. We saw him run and drop the bike,” he said.

Martinez’s brother also spoke to News 12, expressing the immense pain and heartbreak his family is going through. Although Wagner’s arrest brings some hope for justice, Martinez’s brother said, “It’s still not enough. His sons cry every day. His family is in so much pain. The community is in so much pain.”

Next Steps in the Case

Jailyn Wagner is expected to appear before a judge in the coming days to face the charges against him. Authorities and family members hope this will be a step closer to justice for both victims.

Martinez’s brother emphasized the need for closure, saying, “We will not feel at peace until justice is served.”

Community Impact

The murders have left a deep scar on the West Farms community, with residents expressing fear and sadness. Both victims were known in the area, and their untimely deaths have brought attention to safety concerns in the neighborhood.

As the investigation continues, police are urging anyone with additional information about these incidents to come forward. The hope is that further evidence will provide clarity and accountability in these tragic cases.
